Getting out of the rut.

By MVP Marketing + Design | August 8, 2017

We know that building or revamping a website can be tough. That’s why we have a few helpful hints to help you get to where you need to be. These suggestions are a great place to start if the whole website design process is becoming overwhelming. If you want to dig deeper into these and other suggestions, check out our e-book “An Introduction to Growth-Driven Design” here.

1. Know your audience.

Discover what really makes your various audience members tick. From pain points in their jobs or home lives to their favorite ways to relax, knowing your audience will definitely help you create a website that speaks to people in a way they’ll remember.

2. Make the wish list.

This one really gives you that “Ahhh…” feeling when complete. Sit down with the top decision makers in your company. Designate one person to record and then brainstorm as many ideas as possible. Don’t be afraid to get wild with the ideas. What do you really want on your website? What should it represent? Do you need new photography, a blog, or a video? Keep the ideas flowing until there is a natural break.

3. Prioritize your needs.

Take a second look at that wish list. What can wait? We believe in reaching high, but to make your site better you need to have a website first. Slim down your list to only the must-haves and implement those first. Once those are in place, you can go back to your secondary ideas and see how they fit in.

4. Get something out there!

Great websites are only great if people can see them. Don’t let your desire to have the perfect site keep you from getting something done. Better that you have an updated public face while you continue to work, then your old site keeps deterring new customers.

5. Revise, revise, revise.

Once your site is up the work is not finished. A program like Google Analytics installs in minutes and its insights are essential. Track numbers that can help you to better reach your audience. For instance, if more potential customers click on a green call to action than a purple one, you might want to know that, so you can use more green calls to action. Simple changes like color or a different button shape can make a huge difference in response rates. Once you have this information in hand, take the time to revise your website accordingly.

Creating a new website doesn’t have to be a headache. Growth-Driven Design uses tips like the ones above to help you create a website that will keep visitors engaged and accurately represent your work again and again.
