The right formula for PortCo growth: transforming Penta’s digital presence
Project Challenge:
The Challenge: Becoming the First Search, Not the Last
Following its investment partnership with Keystone Capital, Penta Fine Ingredients entered a new chapter focused on building upon more than four decades of experience, expanding its capabilities and supporting continued strategic growth. Headquartered in West Caldwell, New Jersey, Penta provides specialty chemicals and intermediate ingredients serving the flavor, fragrance, pharmaceutical and related markets, backed by an extensive product portfolio and longstanding customer relationships.
As part of that evolution, Penta turned to MVP Marketing + Design to rethink a digital presence that no longer fully represented the breadth of the company’s capabilities or the value it brought to customers.
Penta had built its reputation around responsive customer service, product availability, short lead times and an ability to source hard-to-find materials in smaller volumes. Yet its existing website functioned primarily as a product catalog, felt dated and did not clearly communicate those differentiators.
More importantly, some customers perceived Penta primarily as a resource for smaller-volume or difficult-to-source ingredients—often turning to the company only after exhausting their primary suppliers. Penta wanted to change that perception by demonstrating the breadth of its offering and becoming a go-to, first-choice supplier: the customer’s first search, not the last.
For Keystone and Penta, the opportunity was therefore broader than a visual website refresh. The digital platform needed to better communicate Penta’s capabilities, strengthen customer engagement and provide scalable infrastructure to support the company’s continued growth.
Project Solution:
The MVP PortCoPro℠ Solution
Building upon MVP’s experience supporting Keystone Capital and its portfolio companies, MVP developed a new custom MVP TeamMate℠ WordPress website designed to elevate Penta’s positioning while creating a significantly more useful product and customer resource.
The new user experience was structured around the needs of ingredient-company purchasers seeking availability and supplier credibility, as well as scientists and technical users looking for ingredients, new products and industry information.
Central to the experience is a more intuitive product catalog incorporating product search, certification filtering, downloadable documentation, clearer product-category information and the ability to highlight new products. The broader visual and content experience brings forward Penta’s key differentiators—inventory and availability, technical expertise, responsive service, and flexible sourcing and distribution—while presenting a more contemporary and credible market presence. Those themes remain prominent throughout the completed website today.
Project Results:
Building Digital Infrastructure for Continued PortCo Growth
The completed website gives Penta and Keystone a stronger digital foundation for the company’s next stage of development—one that more accurately represents the breadth of Penta’s offering while making it easier for existing and prospective customers to discover products, access information and engage with the company.
The result is more than a redesigned website. It is a scalable digital platform designed to support Penta’s brand, customer relationships, product discovery and longer-term growth objectives—illustrating how MVP PortCoPro℠ can help private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies align brand-to-web investments with broader value-creation initiatives.
